It seems the perfect gift this Christmas is gossip. Poor Opera has been rumored to be bought so many times to be humorus. Like this quote from OperaWatch:
Given the recent surge in acquisition rumors (first Google, and now Microsoft), I thought it would be nice to see which company Opera Watch readers think will be in the next rumor claiming that it will purchase Opera.

But this makes a point of how quickly rumors spread on the net now, with slashdot becoming just some gossip list. What do you think about this? Should the web just be a gossip hive? Was the web intended to be used this way? And is it acceptable to spead such rumors without truth?
