I refuse to call this an ‘Audcast’ but thankfully this once-in-a-blue-moon GameMaker discussion has re-branded itself GMCast after taking the name from a rival to GameMaker TV which never materialised.
Listen as Robin Monks, Dan Eggers and myself make fools of ourselves while talking about topics such as the best GameMaker games of 2008, the security issues effecting GameMaker and YoYo Games’ instant play and a summary of the events last year.
Cringe at the cheesy opening and at my reluctance to speak as I find that recording a podcast with people I’ve never met is much harder than writing a blog or magazine article. Disagree with our thought-up-in-10-minutes round-up of the best games of the year and complain that the entirety of my pre-record is taken from previous GameMaker Blog posts.
But above all tell us what we can do to improve. What kind of features would you like to see on the show?
GMcast #5 Released
GMpedia.org Reaches its 600th Article Milestone!
GMking.org’s Game Development wiki service, GMpedia.org, has finally reached its 600th article milestone! Our 600th article was the “temp_directory” article, which discusses the temp_directory global variable in Game Maker.
We’re really glad to having reached such article count, which indeed makes GMpedia.org one of the most comprehensive game development and Game Maker wikis out there (not simply taking into account an article count, but also the nature and length of the articles available).

ENIGMA: Lackluster?
GMNews touted the first release of ENIGMA (the open source project designed to convert Game Maker source files into C++, that is then compiled) earlier this week. I, being drawn to open source software as I am, headed straight for the download page.
I must admit that from the already compiled games in their community, as well as the quality of the distribution and documentation it looks very impressive; however, I was unable to compile even the simplest game on my Vista machine. I’m not sure if this is an problem specifically with Vista support, or in the program in general.
You can be sure I’ll be trying out the next version of ENIGMA!
